Visa hela | 5 | 15-03-20 | | The story for Anna Karenina apparently came out of an episode in which Leo Tolstoy arrived at a railway station shortly after a young woman had committed suicide. She had been the mistress of a neighboring landowner, and the incident stuck in his mind. So, Tolstoy creates the character of Anna Karenina, a young woman who finds herself in a loveless marriage with Karenin. It might not have seemed so intolerable if she had not met and fallen in love with Count Vronsky. So, therefore in the character of Anna, Tolstoy creates a woman who is perhaps most unhappily destined for tragedy. | Cujo | King | For starters, this is a story about good dog Cujo.. Visa hela | 4 | 15-03-20 | | For starters, this is a story about good dog Cujo but with a twist, because when Cujo gets scratched by a rabid bat, and the sickness eats its way into his brain he becomes a two-hundred-pound killing machine. Cujo is quite a sad story because even though the big Saint Bernard is the bad dog of the book, it is not his fault and he is as much a victim as the people he terrorizes or kills. One more thing I have noticed, when reading Stephen King novels, that characters from one book have a habit of cropping up in another one. Reading Cujo I noticed that a few characters from The Dead Zone turned up in the story. I only mention this because I quite enjoy the way King works bits of one story into another. | En vampyrs bekännelse | Rice | When she wrote the novel, Anne Rice overturned the.. Visa hela | 4 | 15-03-20 | | When she wrote the novel, Anne Rice overturned the traditional view of the vampire, held since Bram Stoker's Dracula. Long considered the dark and dangerous outsider, Rice gave the vampire a voice: the hero is no longer the vampire hunter, but the vampire himself. Whether you consider the sympathetic and morally tortured Louis, or the sexy and exciting Lestat, Rice's vampires are accessible, desirable and extremely vocal. Louis hates taking others' lives tosurvive, but Lestat keeps telling him to forget about that dark aspect. They rompthrough the nights of eighteenth century New Orleans for years until Louis givesinto his blood lust and feeds on an orphan girl. They make her into the hauntingvampire-child Claudia, and this is when the story picks up. The three traveltogether until Claudia, driven mad by her eternal youth, splits from the trio. The plot itself is amazing, but this is not what makes the story soenthralling. For the first time in modern literature, a book tells an in-depthstory of a vampire.
