Makkerparret Jessica Balzano og Kevin Byrne fra Drabsafdelingen i Philadelphia kastes ud i deres hidtil mest nervepirrende sag, da en galning med tilnavnet ´Skuespilleren´ genskaber en række berømte filmmord lige fra Psycho til Farligt begær – og stolt sender politiet videoer af sine forbrydelser. Filmhistorien myldrer med spektakulære mord, og ingen ved hvilken klassiker, han udvælger til sin næste ´scene´.
Sidste scene er anden bog i Richard Montanaris internationale bestsellerserie om Balzano/Byrne. Om nr. 1, Rosenkrans-mordene, skrev kritikerne:

On Rosary Girls, the author first book in the series, I complained about Montanari not digging enough into the main character’s soul. In this book he does it and it’s always good to know that he doesn’t try to change the heart of someone like Kevin Byrne. This meaning… Kevin is who he is for good and bad. Antihero. Thug as nail. The heart of a lion… a good heart. But, after reading The Skin Gods I get the idea that Montanari doesn’t think thug-enough to personify a guy like Byrne. ― What I am talking about here is that some of the dialogues of Byrne are to say the least “lame”! Otherwise I find this book a bit better than Rosary Girls, better plot, more suspense and as always you will guess and guess and never know who the bad guy is until the very end. Last but not least, I think Montanari is on some fame?money?rollercoaster after Rosary Girls because I think he should have given a bit more attention to some passages of The Skin Gods. This book had everything to have been a real knockout-mystery, but I don’t know, sometimes it feels like Montanari is writing books for 10 year-old kids. Cheers!
