The beginning of the novel is about Ivan Ilyich lying dead and people are coming to his home where they meet the widow and the children. After this the story is about Ivan Ilyich and how he got the apartment where he and his family lived. But the most is about Ivan sickness and how it hurts in his body. The doctors have opposite opinion about what it is and how it will be treated. One doctor thinks a operation will help but the other doctor have another thinking. The novel describes Ivan and his struggle until his death.
It's a lot of feeling and frightening feelings and Lep Tolstoy describes everything very well.
