17-year-old Masha fell in love with her twice as old friend. He had been deeply in love with her since long. After married they live with his mother. But the man, Sergey, think Masha yearn for large balls and they therefore move to the city for a time. He leaves her there for long periods. After this, a stay abroad where Masha realizes that this is not a real life. When they move back to the country she long for the great love that the man shown her before. It's hard for her to understand that love change in time with time. The novel feels pretty typical of Leo Tolstoy's writing. It was okay to read.
