The Happy Prince stands as statue in the city. But now he is not happy when he sees how poor and miserable some of the people are. If only he could help them. A bird delayed on its way to Egypt, landing at the statue's feet, and The Happy Prince succeeds with some persuasion to get the swallow to pluck gems and gold from the statue and distribute among the poor.
I think the story is very beautiful.
