Ghost in the Shell

Gränsen mellan människa och maskin har suddats ut ordentligt en bit in på 2000-talet och superagenten och cyborgmajoren Motoko Kusanagi är ett levande exempel på detta. Hon spårar de farligaste av terrorister och cyberbrottslingar - även så kallade "ghost hackers" som tar sig in i gränssnittet mellan människa och maskin för att skapa sina egna marionetter. I jakten på en sådan tränger Kasanagi djupt in i informationsdjungeln och hamnar i en värld där självmedvetandet och den mänskliga själen ställs på ända.

Motoko Kusanagi: Sometimes I wonder if I've already died, and what I think of as "me" isn't really just an artificial personality comprised of a prosthetic body and a cyberbrain.
Cybertekniker: Eek! Motoko! Don't even SAY scary stuff like that!! Hey, we've got grey matter, and people treat us like humans.
Motoko Kusanagi: How do you know? You've never seen your alleged grey matter. Maybe you're just assuming you've got it because of the situation you're in. Maybe someday your "maker" will come ... haul you away, take you apart, and announce the recall of a defective product. What if all that's left of the "REAL YOU" is a couple of lonely brain cells, huh?
Cybertekniker: Well, I AM a human, and I'm sure the number of parts needed to BE human is more than two or three brain cells! 'Course I DO know that chemicals and mecha can substitute for a fair number of the functions of the cerebrum today ...
